Now, I've lived in four houses my whole life. The first one I know almost nothing about. The second and third I know the most about. I moved into my current one about two years ago, but I'll start with my second house. Possibly the first things I remember in my whole life were two things - building toys and computers. I'll start with building toys. Now, of course the first ones I remember were Lego. The first Lego set I had was a tub of Duplo, but I stopped caring about that quick when I got my Power Pitstop.
Here's the first set I ever owned. It was fairly small, but for some reason there was something so interesting about it. I would often tear it apart and put it together again because I loved it so much. I don't know what made me love it, but this is where it all began. I still have the instructions to it, now I just need to find where I put all those pieces. But if you've seen this video...
You'd know that it wouldn't be quite easy to do. Now, that wasn't the only set I had. Over the years I started getting countless numbers of sets, and as that video shows, those tubs are filled with all the pieces I had from those sets. Just to name a few, I had a couple of boats, a ton of cars, several Star Wars models, Znaps, town sets, the actual soccer field thing (not an accesory, the actual model, and the first version), some of the board games, and way more that I wish I could think of right now. I think my favorite set was the soccer field.
I had a lot of fun playing this with my dad and my sister. What made it so special was that it was my first "expensive set", and I wanted it more than ever as a kid. You try to pass the soccer ball to your teammates and score a goal, but make sure that it doesn't end up hitting an opponent. It was my favorite for a while, but in third grade, I got this set.
Yep, the Castle of Morcia. I actually still have this one built, and I loved it to death. It was fun changing the aspects of the castle to make it evil or good, and I would often make half of it good and half of it evil just for lulz. I got it in Christmas 2005, and have loved it since. This was back in the day when if they were advertising Lego at McDonald's, they would actually give you car sets and not cheap giant minifigures (no oxymoron intended). Besides Lego, I had quite a few other building toys as well. Firstly, I had Lincoln Logs, which my grandmother gave me when I was little for my birthday. And boy did I play with those a bunch. Jigsaw puzzles were also a big role in my childhood as well, and like that pitstop, I would always take them apart and put them back again because I loved them so much. Then there was one that had as much of an impact as Lego - Thomas the Tank Engine. I don't know what it was I loved about it so much, but I played with it way too much. My first set I got (which I'll eat my pants if you've even heard of it before) was called "Instant System Set No. 3". I can't find any pictures of it (and I'm not getting it out of my attic just to take a picture of it), but it was a figure-8 set that featured Thomas, Annie and Claribell. It also had a shed, Sir Topham Hat, and a couple of signs. But unlike the pit stop, I wasn't too big on it. I started getting more, and what do you know, I got hooked. I was an impatient child, so making freestyle Lego sets was something I just couldn't do. That's why I free built Thomas way more, as it was quick and simple. Now, possibly my favorite extra segment I got was the coal station.
What you did here was grab some coal, put it in the conveyer belt, roll the belt up, and drop it into the car waiting at the other end. I have no idea why I loved this so much, but I did. In fact, I still have all of my Thomas stuff, in my attic. It's all going away when I make it to college (This stuff will be rare, Instant System Set 3 can already be going for outragous prices!), but if I ever feel like taking a trip down nostalgia road again, it's there.
Thanks for reading this post, tune in next time for computers!
I've never commented on any of your Blogspot blog posts until now.
ReplyDeleteI've had a few Lego sets when I was a kid. I also remember getting McDonald's Happy Meal toys, but they were Hot Wheels cars.
I have a lot of Thomas Wooden Railway toys. They've been my thing since 2002. I had the same TWR set since 2003. And just so you know...
1. It's "Hatt," not "Hat."
2. It's "Clarabel," "Claribell."

That's quite sad because TWR was awesome back in the day. If you're interested in Thomas and Friends, check out the TTTE wiki on Wikia.

And also check out the Thomas and Friends remakes on YouTube (there's a ton of them).
That's all I have to say.
